The Benefits of Living in Panama as an Expat

The Benefits of Living in Panama as an Expat

For many years, Panama has been a great destination for expats to live in and explore, and with good reason, since the country offers diversity when it comes to tourism, lifestyle and entertainment, that combines the ease of access through a hub airport, a modern city and all the natural beauties in the Panama’s interior region.

With an economic growth way higher than other Latin American destinations for more than 5 years now, Panama has been very attached to a lot of foreign investment, generating a fast development in sectors such as real estate, tourism and entertainment, as well construction and infrastructure.

This fast development over the years has gained a lot of attention from overseas enterprises and multinational companies, setting branches and regional headquarters in Panama to cover both local and the regional markets, bringing a substantial amount of expats year over year. This is not including also, a lot of retirees who choose Panama as a retirement destination due to the US dollar economy, affordable living and flexible visa or residency policies.

Of course, there is not a perfect country for everyone. Like any other place, Panama has some cons, but according to most expats there are so many benefits that undoubtedly outweighs those cons, and that is what makes this country a perfect expat destination already for so many years.

Here below we present some of the benefits of living in Panama as an expat:

Compared to other countries in Latin America, Panama is safe

For daily living, Panama is relatively safe in most areas. As explained before, the government is pretty much aware of how important safety is for maintaining the country as a top touristic destination, so they and the police are diligent when it comes to safety matters. As many other destinations, including first-world countries, there are places where you would prefer to avoid passing by to get in trouble.

It has modern and reliable infrastructure

As a growing country, Panama keeps investing on infrastructure improvements. For several years already, there has been back to back projects on new roads, highways, bridges, and metro lines. Utilities such as electricity, water, cell phone service are not a thing of concern, and the internet is fast and reliable enough when compared to neighboring countries, and plus, very affordable.

The weather is very favorable for most expats

Panama experiences two seasons during the whole year, a dry season and a rainy season, the average temperature during the year in most places of the country is 30°C (86°F), making it a perfect destination for those who like to escape winter in their hometowns. But its climate can be somehow diverse too, if you choose to go to mountain regions such as Boquete, you can enjoy temperatures of 20°C or even lower.

Panama has been economically stable for many years

Besides its impressive growth rate over the years, Panama has been a politically and economically stable country for many years, the Panama Canal brings a steady income year over year, and its tax breaks and incentives keeps bringing more multinational companies to establish base in the country, so there is no doubt the economy will continue to do well on the following years.
